ANALYSIS OF THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC CONDITION OF THE GENERAL PUBLIC SURROUNDING GORCHUMUK- 58 GATE TOURIST SPOT IN INDIA: A CASE STUDY
Garchumuk is located at the confluence of River Hooghly and River Damodar in the district of Howrah of West Bengal, India. The spot, offering the spectacular view of the Ganges, is progressively emerging as a well-liked tourist destination of West Bengal of India which is ideal for a weekend tour. The objective of the study is to examine whether economic condition of the people of the locality has been improved due to this flourishing tourist spot under Uluberia sub-division of Howrah district, India. Another objective is to observe the demographic profile as well as the social, educational background of the people of the said locality surrounding the tourist spot. The entire study is based on the survey based field investigation. It can be inferred from our study that there is variation in income of the people of the said locality between peak seasons and slack seasons due to variation in inflow of tourists. The locational advantage of Garchumuk which is 18 km away from Subdivisional town Uluberia has made the rural area surrounding it a hub of economic development.
